My professional journey intertwines 14 years of dedicated military service with a decade in mental health expertise. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Board Certified Diplomate (BCD), Licensed Substance Use Counselor (LCDC), and a certified clinical supervisor, representing the pinnacle of clinical licensure.

I hold a Ph.D. in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University, where my research delved into the critical area of suicidality among LGBTQ individuals in religious contexts. My work has not only led to multiple national publications but has also significantly shaped behavioral health practices across the Department of Defense, pioneering innovative programs that set new standards.

My therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in trauma-focused methodologies, with specialized expertise in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance (MI) and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Attachment Theory.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I am an ACT coach, mentor, writer, and a devoted yet often disheartened sports enthusiast. Whether it’s the Utah Jazz, Utes, or Cleveland Browns, my loyalty endures despite the elusive victories.

My path is one of continuous learning, teaching, and a commitment to enhancing mental health care. But this journey is not just about me – it’s about how we can collaborate to foster resilience and promote well-being. I look forward to connecting, sharing insights, and embarking on this transformative journey together.

I have been reading your articles and they are very informative! I’m currently in the process of applying for next MSW/SWIP board. I am a single mother, so would you recommend for my son to stay back with those listed on my FCP during BOLC? I know for the DCC course I would have too but before the actual MSW/SWIP program begins, we have DCC and BOLC. What’s your recommendation? Thank you again for the articles. These are amazing!

    1. So sorry for the late reply (life). That would be my recommendation, as DCC and, more so, BOLC, will take you into he field where you’d be unable to care for your son. Hopefully that helps, and good luck!

Cam, I read your post and as a prior service enlisted myself, I thank you for giving your point of view of DCC. I had many questions before but now after reading your blog I am more at ease with what to expect week by week.
